Pet Vaccination

Pet Vaccination

Bayview Park Animal Hospital offers vaccinations to protect your furry companions from some of the most common and fatal diseases. All pets require a thorough physical examination before our vets can administer them vaccinations. A physical exam ensures your pet is healthy and able to receive the vaccinations without any side effects.

Vaccinations are of two different types: core and non-core. Core vaccination shots are usually recommended for all pets. The non-core vaccination shots are designed for pets who are at risk in the area they live in, from the activities they participate, or due to the condition they have.

Below are the recommendations from our vets in Burlington Ontario:

Cats

Core vaccinations

  • FVRCP —Protects against three viruses.
  • Rabies

Non-core vaccinations

  • Feline leukemia virus (FeLV)— Outdoor cats and multiple cat households are more vulnerable to this virus.
  • FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus, or “feline AIDS”)

Dogs

Core vaccinations

  • DA2PP combination (distemper, hepatitis, adenovirus type 2, parainfluenza, parvo)
  • Rabies

Non-core vaccinations

  • Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • Leptospirosis
  • Lyme disease—The vaccination for this disease is essential for dogs at risk of tick exposure.
