Pet Ultrasound Services

An ultrasound exam is an essential part of the diagnostic service that allows our vets to look inside your pet’s body. The ultrasound machine transforms sound waves into an image that can be seen on the monitor. This is a safe and non-invasive procedure that is vital to diagnose and examine a range of diseases and conditions. At Bayview Park Animal Hospital, our vets utilize this examination to evaluate the condition of various internal organs such as liver, kidneys and intestines.

Pet Ultrasound Is Essential To

  • Diagnose and explore masses, such as the structure and location of the mass.
  • Diagnose the diseases of the liver, kidney, adrenals, stomach, intestine, bladder and gallbladder
  • Diagnose any diseases associated with the heart such as heart failure, heart murmurs, as well as evaluate the structure and function of the heart
  • Diagnose any foreign bodies in the intestinal tract
  • Examine pet’s pregnancy

Our vets in Bayview Park Animal Hospital use special equipments to perform an ultrasound test. Your pet will be placed comfortably on a padded table with abdominal surface facing to the examiner. Then, a probe against the skin of your pet will be placed. From the probe the sound waves will reach the surface organs. The reflection of the sound waves will create an image of the internal organs on the monitor. Our veterinarians will carefully review the image to check whether or not your pet is suffering from any health ailment.

An ultrasound is a painless procedure and takes 20 to 60 minutes to complete. If your pet is uncomfortable, our vets may administer a mild sedative to relax your pet during the diagnostic exam. We may request an ultrasound examination of your pet for any of the following reasons:

  • Abnormal bloodwork
  • Chronic vomiting or diarrhea
  • Weight loss pr a decreased apetite
  • Chronic infections
  • Change in urinary habits
  • Baseline ultrasound for future examination
  • Reevaluate previous examinations
  • Cancer staging
  • Liquid in chest or abdomen
  • Pregnancy
  • Pre-surgical
